BioTE Q & A

What are bioidentical hormones?

Bioidentical hormones are a form of hormone replacement therapy using hormones created from plant chemicals found in soybeans and yams. Your body uses these replacement hormones as it would your own to improve the symptoms caused by fluctuations in hormones during menopause, such as hot flashes and vaginal dryness.

What is BioTE Medical?

BioTE Medical is a brand of bioidentical hormones available at Cherry Hills Midwifery, Obstetrics, & Gynecology that delivers individualized hormone therapy to you in a pellet that’s placed under your skin, optimizing hormone delivery. By comparison, bioidentical hormones taken in pill form are metabolized by your liver and get converted into a weaker hormone.

The healthcare professionals at Cherry Hills first conduct saliva or blood tests to determine your hormone levels. Then, pellets are created to meet your exact hormonal requirements.

How are BioTE Medical pellets placed?

Placement of your BioTE Medical pellet happens in the office and only takes a few minutes. There’s no need to prepare for insertion.

To place the pellet, one of the professionals at Cherry Hills Midwifery, Obstetrics, & Gynecology first numbs the area with a topical anesthetic. A small incision is made, and the pellet is placed under the skin and covered with a bandage.

It takes about a week for the incision site to heal. During that time, you need to refrain from strenuous exercise, hot tubs, and soaking baths. It’s OK to shower.

After a week and removal of the bandage, you can go back to your usual activities.

How often do I need new pellets?

On average, women need two to four pellet insertions during a year.

However, as an individualized form of hormone replacement therapy, everyone’s treatment plan is different. The Cherry Hills team works with you to develop a plan that optimizes your health and determines how often you need replacement pellets.

What are the benefits of BioTE Medical?

Unlike some other forms of bioidentical hormone therapy, BioTE Medical pellets offer a consistent dose of hormones so you feel good all day, everyday. And because the pellet is in direct contact with your bloodstream, you get a bioidentical hormone that’s molecularly like your own.
